Abstract
■ An examination is made on how reflective processes have been employed to explore issues of parental involvement in relation to the use of touch of sick neonates receiving high-dependency care
■ From two specific incidents causing 'inner discomforts', the practitioner in this study identified areas of her practice which needed further reflection
■ The initial plan for a structured approach of evaluation was changed due to the effects that the methodology was having on the use of touch
■ Some initiatives were introduced in order to sustain the changes brought about by this project on the neonatal unit
