■ The available research has seemingly failed to identify a model of delivering specialist nursing care to sick children in their own home
■ Pioneering paediatric community nursing services as well as those occurring in the author's local area are described to demonstrate the application of such services
■ The future of paediatric community nursing needs to consider the evaluation of specialist and generic services in order to provide evidence for use by future decision makers
