A case is described of mixed mania in a 15-year-old boy, possibly induced by the use of a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). A potentially dangerous, suicidal mental state was treated with ECT. The implications of the recognition and treatment of adolescent onset bipolar disorder is discussed.
