Vibration and uncertainty analysis of MWCNT reinforced composite sandwich beam with a biomimetic dual core

Abstract

In this present work, the vibration characteristics and uncertain parameters of the biomimetic dual core sandwich beam under different boundary conditions are studied using MATLAB-ANSYS Interface methodology. The elastic properties of the MWCNT reinforced composite laminates are calculated using a modified Halpin Tsai model and the mechanical properties of the biomimetic core were evaluated using an Alternative dynamic approach. The natural frequencies obtained from the developed methodology have been compared with values from available literature and experimental results, showing acceptable agreement. The uncertainty analysis was performed for different uncertain parameters using the Monte Carlo simulation technique. Finally, the global sensitivity analysis was carried out for uncertain conditions and the most influencing parameters were identified. The longitudinal young’s modulus (E ₁ ), density (ρ), length (L), top layer angle (t ₁ ) and bottom layer angle (t ₄ ) are the most influencing parameters for dual core sandwich beam. This research provides valuable insights for advancing uncertainty quantification in biomimetic composite sandwich structures, contributing to the practical application in the fields that demand high strength-to-weight ratio conditions.
