Abstract

Dear International Journal of Toxicology Readers:
I hope that this finds you and yours doing well.
I was recently surprised to learn that some features of our Journal’s website are not well-known to all Journal readers. First, for members of the American College of Toxicology (ACT), the easiest way to access International Journal of Toxicology is via the ACT website, using the “Journal” navigation tab. The features that I would like to point out to our readers are our Collections, and some tabs that will take you to featured content. Both of these features can be found by scrolling to near the bottom of the Journal web page.
We currently have six Collections: microRNAs in Toxicology Studies Vaccine Development Top 10 Most Read Articles in 2019 Top 10 Most Read Articles in 2020 Recipients of the Best Paper Published in International Journal of Toxicology Award (as well as the titles of these papers) Recommended Reading on Nanomaterials
We have the ability to add content to our collections, so if there is a recent International Journal of Toxicology paper (published in the past ∼3 years) that you feel should be added to one of our Collections, please let me know. In addition, the tabs, which are updated frequently, contain “Latest Articles” (read them here before they appear online or land on your desk in the print issue of the Journal!); “Most Read”; “Most Cited” (includes manuscripts published in the past three years); and “Trending on Altmetric”. In particular, the “Most Read” papers show the durability and value of the manuscripts that we publish. For example, in February, 2021, one of the most read papers was one that was published in 1989! The “Most Cited” papers contribute to our Journal’s impact factor.
For those of you who are not familiar with Atlmetric (https://www.altmetric.com/about-altmetrics/what-are-altmetrics/), these are metrics that show who may be reading and using your manuscript. So if a company tweets about a paper published by one of its employees, that tweet can be picked up by Altmetric; similarly, if a major newspaper mentions a paper published in International Journal of Toxicology, that will be picked up in the paper’s Altmetric score.
Please be safe and stay in touch. I am always happy to receive your suggestions and input.
