Abstract

Happy 2015!
I’d like to bring your attention to the end of the current issue of Int J Toxicol, where we feature the abstracts of posters that were presented at the ACT Annual Meeting in November, 2014. I’m excited to report that we have tentative commitments from several poster authors to submit papers on their work to the Journal in the coming months.
In other exciting news, I’m pleased to report that a number of session chairs and co-chairs of Symposia and Continuing Education courses at the ACT annual meeting have submitted or are nearing completion of Session Overview articles. Publication of sessions presented at the ACT Annual Meeting greatly extends the reach of the valuable content of the session, as well as the hard work of the speakers and organizers of the session. If 80 people were in the room for the session, that’s great, but wouldn’t it be better if 8,000 people had access to the content presented in the Symposium or Continuing Education session? Specifically, as of November 1, 2014, Int J Toxicol had a circulation of 8,546 subscriptions. This includes everything from individual ACT member subscriptions to large library consortia. In 2013, there were 58,869 full-text downloads and 721,451 accesses to Journal articles.
There are other obvious reasons to publish Annual Meeting Session Overview articles. In the current job market, where job certainty is, well, less than certain, having recent, peer-reviewed publications to list on one’s CV can only be a plus. In addition, it costs nothing to publish in Int J Toxicol, and I will assure free color figures to all authors of Annual Meeting overview articles. Our peer review process is rapid and handled by people who really care about making the Journal the best that it can be. I will be putting out a call for Session Overview articles for the next ACT Annual Meeting soon, so if you plan to chair a session, please work with your presenters early to develop a session overview article of your own! I’m here to help however I can.
My other initiative for 2015 is to collect content, and people to review and edit it, on the toxicology of nanomaterials. My goal is to have 8-10 high quality manuscripts on nanomaterial toxicology to present as the first issue of 2016. Therefore, if you work in this area and would like to publish your work, or if you would like to review articles in this area, consider yourself invited for these activities. I’m also looking for ACT members who would like to serve as Guest Editors for this special issue. This individual (or these individuals) would help me develop guidelines for publishing papers on nanomaterials in Int J Toxicol, and would help with the processes of identifying reviewers and making ultimate decisions on submitted manuscripts. So if you’d like a focused taste of what I do, here is your opportunity!
Thanks for your ongoing support of Int J Toxicol. Our College has provided tremendous support to the Journal in terms of article submissions and reviews over the past year, and I’m most grateful.
