Abstract
Transportation—the moving of creatures, things, and information from one location to another—has been basic to the development of human society for thousands of years. In the past 100 years, an immense number of changes in transportation have occurred, and many more can be expected as the 21st century draws near. In this commentary, the author traces important developments in transportation and identifies some of the challenges, concluding with 10 predictions on the future of transportation.
