Abstract
“Preservation and Freedom” discusses the importance of farmland preservation and certain individual efforts to preserve farmland in southern Ashland County, Ohio. The article concludes with a discussion of the relationship of preservation and freedom, stating that we in America need a new definition of economy that includes the long-term ramifications of what we do and asserts that our national goals should include more than addiction to progress, efficiency, and increasing materialism; it should include preserving our relationship to the land that made us who and what we are.
