Abstract
Nurses do not have a rich tradition for financial management, even with respect to their own occupational domains. Now there are new tools that make the mastery offinancial management and especially cost management accessible and reasonable. These tools are just in time, because the marketplace is demanding that prof essional nurses be skilled in cost management. The premier tool for achieving relevant, comprehensive cost management is activity-based costing, and nurses will do well to give it serious consideration.
