Abstract
The RN and Volunteer Clinical Competency Tools with Measurable Outcomes is a very practical, cost- effective tool for orientation and ongoing education. They provide a list of competencies that are then broken down into (1) subject, (2) content or learning options, and (3) measurable outcomes or evaluation mechanisms. These tools strive to facilitate productivity earlier, reduce turnover, decrease burnout, increase satisfaction, reduce supervisory load, and increase quality. These tools received the 1993 National Hospice Organization President's Award of Excellence for Hospice Staff Training and Development. These tools were also presented at workshops at the 1994 meetings of the National Hospice Organization and the National Association for Home Care.
