Abstract
In the changing health care arena, there are intense demands to provide quality, cost-effective service. Retaining qualified staff is essential for all health care organizations. Home care organizations can maximize the return on dollars spent and clients can receive the maximum benefit from health care dollars spent by promoting the professional development of home health aides. Increased skills and confidence in skills enhances the effectiveness and efficiency of care delivered. Promoting professional development increases job satisfaction, which increases staff retention and saves dollars. A team approach to the professional development of home health aides benefits staff, home care, organizations and, most importantly, clients.
