The author provides a concise picture of the history of the disease since its description in 1907 and the continued difficulty in diagnosing the disease process before the patient's death. Current pharmacological treatment efforts to treat the disease are dis cussed, with a focus on the treatment of the various episodic symptoms demonstrated by the Alzheimer's patient, including anxiety, depression, agitation, and insomnia.
