Abstract
Mistake management is rapidly emerging as an important, and often overlooked, component of risk management programs in health care. Nationwide legislative efforts and recent regulatory requirements support the movement away from a “deny and defend” mistake management culture and toward a more patient friendly method of mistake mediation. These “best practice” methods of mistake management have been proven effective in decreasing legal claims and settlement expenses and offer the bonus of increasing patient satisfaction and trust.
