Through the care of David,* an extraordinary patient with lymphoma, the nurses on the oncology unit have come face-to-face with questions that do not have readily accessible answers. These questions regarding our daily practice make us turn an inward eye on how we cognitively and emotionally cope with the care of dying patients, and cause us to evaluate the nurse—patient boundaries we establish and maintain. The purpose of the following article is to shed light on the questions, rather than to provide all the answers.
