Abstract

This text is a spiritual (re)search. I selected a local Pentecostal church that would align with and trouble the conservative Methodist Christian background with which I grew up. The text (re)creates this tension. How do I (re)create belief? How do I (re)construct (“preserve”) reality? How do I preserve the Self in the face of a changing Other? How do I (re)construct the Other in the face of a changing Self? I explore and alter this border of Self/Other, specifically the portion that defines spirituality/rationality. I allow for and encourage the overlap of desire and observation. I experiment with modes of spirituality/ rationality, with fields of possible/impossible. Using the Christian Trinity as a structure, I juxtapose identities and modes to create a text that is disjointed, nonlinear, and multiple. A prayer, a hymn, a true fiction.
