Abstract
This study examines the organizational culture and leadership dynamics of two student media organizations, The Independent and The Gallant, at a college of communication. Using ethnographic methods, this study explored the interplay between autonomy, leadership styles, and faculty involvement in shaping students’ professional identities and skill development. The study highlights the crucial role of organizational culture in preparing students for a career in professional journalism, emphasizing the importance of balanced mentorship, inclusive practices, and realistic exposure to newsroom dynamics.
