Bending Vibration Control of Cantilevers via Boundary Moment and Combined Feedback Control Laws

Abstract

The problem of controlling the bending vibration of cantilevers modeled as closed cross-section thin-walled beams and incorporating a number of nonclassical effects, such as transverse shear, secondary warping, and heterogeneity, is investigated. The control is carried out via a bending moment applied at the tip of the structure. A combined feedback control law relating the boundary moment at the beam tip with the kinematic response variables appropriately selected is implemented, and its results on the closed-loop eigen frequencies and dynamic response are highlighted. The capabilities and efficiency of this control methodol ogy, considered in conjunction with a number of nonclassical effects featuring the structure, are illustrated, and pertinent conclusions are outlined.
