Abstract
I recall very clearly Dr. Torrance's announcement at the first World Conference in London of his first plans for Future Problem Solving. At that time, I sensed that he saw FPS as a vehicle to enhance creative thinking for all gifted students, whether or not they were achieving in our schools. His concern was for disadvantaged gifted as well as for middle-class students. FPS is a route to encouraging children who may not be achieving in school. The creative and competitive dynamics of FPS provide exactly the school experiences needed to help underachievers feel a sense of accomplishment and confidence. — SR
