AlcockJ.Animal behavior: an evolutionary approach (2nd ed.). Sunderland, MA: Sinaver Associates, 1979. This is a good introductory college level textbook covering all aspects of the field.

AllenT. (Ed.) The marvels of animal behavior.Washington, D.C.: National Geographic Society, 1972. This book is a compilation of chapters by authorities in the field accompanied by superb photographs.

DawkinsR.The selfish gene.New York: Oxford University Press, 1976. A sophisticated but highly readable introduction to sociobiology.

PriceE.StokesA.Animal behavior in laboratory and field.San Francisco: W.H. Freeman, 1975. This is an invaluable source of ideas for labs. Though oriented toward college classes, the exercises are adaptable for the G/T classroom.

TinbergenN. (Ed.) Animal behavior.New York: Time, 1965. Though a bit dated, this book is interesting and has a lot of informative pictures.

van Lawick-GoodallJ.In the shadow of man.Boston: Houghton-Mifflin, 1971. A classic example of the study of animal behavior in the field by a pioneering primatologist.
