Abstract
Because of global and national demographic changes and the increased diversity of clients and nursing students, nursing educators need to strengthen the incorporation of cultural diversity, particularly of family diversity in nursing curricula. Greater commitment to a transcultural, multicultural orientation in nursing education is advocated in this article. Transcultural nursing education about and for family diversity needs to promote an understanding of both similarities and differences amongfamilies and how to adapt health care and family nursing practice so that they are culturally relevant. Definition of key terms, theoretical perspectives, content areas, and teaching methods appropriate for teaching aboutfamily diversity are discussed.
