Abstract
HABS (HRAF Automated Bibliographic System) which began in 1965 is now reaching its maturity. HABS is laying a foundation for an integrated system of all existing information components at HRAF. This new super- system-the HRAF Cultural Information System (HACIS)-is a powerful research tool. HABS now consists of (1) thirteen books of analytical bib liographies and indexes published by the method; (2) over 70,000 entries of computerized bibliographies and various retrieval capabilities; and (3) special features of its information system principles, analysis approaches and computer programs. Three intellectual tasks in which HABS aids its users-culture unit identification, description and comparison, and data quality control-are also elaborated in teims of specific types of HABS bibliographic profiles and table-form and analytical indexes.
