Abstract
This study examined how Whiteness enters family therapy racial discussion between families of color and family counselors in training (CITs) when involving broaching methods. Critical discourse analysis (CDA) and Fairclough’s analysis framework was used to identify the flow of power in racial attitudes by focusing on how language limits or advances dominant thought in the family therapy setting. A detailed discussion inclusive of implications for counselor education, clinical practice, and future research is noted.
