Counseling and Psychotherapy With Difficult Clients/Family Members

Abstract

Dr. Fred Hanna has developed expertise working with difficult clients and is the author of the book Therapy with Difficult Clients: Using the Precursors Model to Awaken Change as well as numerous articles on the topic. He has also been featured as a master therapist in APA's Psychotherapy Video Series on a DVD entitled Treatment with Defiant and Aggressive Adolescents. The goal of this interview is to have Dr. Hanna explain the precursors of change and how they would apply working with difficult adolescents, a population family counselors often have as clients. The interview also explores how he became familiar with systems theory, his interest in therapeutic change, and how his life evolved to become a counselor educator.
