This article presents a new approach to investigate the interoperability in collaborative engineering across design, manufacturing, operation, maintenance, and end-of-life stages with an expanded generic feature paradigm. The fundamental strategy is to develop a unified and consistent interoperable semantic scheme in order to support an open and flexible knowledge realization system. Oil production industry is aimed as the application field.
