Abstract
There is limited research examining men’s experiences of eating disorders and co-occuring conditions like obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The aim of this meta-analysis was to examine the pooled lifetime prevalence of OCD in men with an eating disorder. Consistent with the PRISMA guidelines, 4 electronic databases (PsycINFO, MEDLINE, PubMed, and Cochrane) were searched on June 14, 2024. A total of 1045 articles were identified for screening using a combination of search terms to establish relevant studies examining the prevalence of OCD in men with an eating disorder. A total of 6 studies were included in the meta-analysis for OCD prevalence. Results showed that the pooled current lifetime prevalence of comorbid OCD was 11% (95% CI: 0.04–0.26). Clinicians should consider routine screening for comorbid OCD in men with eating disorders. Men with both conditions may benefit from treatment that concurrently addresses OCD during treatment for the eating disorder.
