Bullae Associated with Allopurinol

Abstract

Although allopurinol is both effective and widely used in the treatment of hyperuricemia and gout, various adverse effects, particularly cutaneous reactions, commonly occur. In this case, a severely ill patient with multiple medical problems developed bullous lesions on both lower extremities in association with allopurinol therapy. The lesions burst and did not recur following discontinuation of allopurinol therapy. The patient died, thus preventing rechallenge.
