Evaluating the Effectiveness of a Professional Development Program: Changes in Teachers to Improve Teaching Quality

Abstract

The changing global landscape and advancements in education necessitate a reevaluation of educators’ roles. In the past, teachers primarily focused on transmitting knowledge to students. However, in today's information-rich era, there's a growing recognition that educators must transcend the role of mere knowledge conveyors. They should instead adopt a design-oriented approach to teaching, implementing well-crafted instructional designs in their classrooms. This study aims to enhance teaching quality by introducing a professional development program and assessing its impact on teachers’ adoption of the designer teacher role, acquisition of essential knowledge and skills for this role, and their experiences in the program. The study employed an embedded mixed-methods design involving 150 teachers from diverse backgrounds. Data were gathered through surveys and focus group interviews. The analysis revealed that teachers enhanced their knowledge, incorporated more effective instructional practices, and embraced their new role as designer teachers.
