This article describes and summarizes an exploratory study on the topic of fathers' participation in early childhood special education programs. The purpose of the study was to explore factors and issues that may influence the participation of fathers. Telephone interviews were conducted with representatives from 15 programs, Data from the interviews are presented in a discussion of the following topics: the nature of fathers' participation, related factors, programming issues, family reactions, and changes over time. Goals were (1) to offer suggestions to programs interested in increasing the participation of fathers, and (2) to propose directions for further research.
