Abstract
Although the costs of employee turnover to organizations are often substantial, the centralized nature of the recruiting function can make these costs difficult to recognize. THE HIDDEN COSTS OF EMPLOYEE TURNOVER helps participants understand these costs, including temporary labor, recruiting, training, and the “learning curve.” Participants form consulting teams whose job is to most accurately guess the organizational costs of turnover; the facilitator or facilitators are organizational representatives with prespecified information to provide, if asked. The exercise provides a strong platform for introducing a variety of human resource management topics.
