Abstract
An analysis of interdisciplinary research and theory relating to group dynamics is undertaken in terms of implications for small school leadership. The transferability of research and theory from sociology, psychology, and business management to educational administration is demonstrated. Concepts are operationalized to generate ideas that can be of use both to the practitioner and to the student of educational administration. The analysis includes ideas based on a principal's observational experiences that should be useful to the researcher in developing theoretical constructs for study.
