Abstract
Derived from organization development and adult education, LOGS: a Language of Group Skills, encodes a core of six group competencies in behavioral terms. In LOGS traning, group members are guided to name their learning and in so doing to (1)fortify the acquisition of skills, (2) encode the skills in their own vernacular, and (3) become aware of their ability to add to the competencies, thus contributing to the formation of self-directed learning group. In this way, the repertoire of skills comprising LOGS becomes a common language shared by the unit, facilitating collaborative problem solving and decision making.
