The thermomechanical behavior of an Fe-Cr-Ni- Mn-Si polycrystalline shape memory alloy, displaying high corro sion resistance as well as good oxidation resistance and workabil ity, was examined experimentally from the macroscopic point of view. The martensitic and reverse transformation start and finish conditions were determined in the stress-temperature plane from the isostatic strain-temperature data. The reverse transformation was shown to be strongly dependent on the prior martensitic transformation. The response of the alloy was measured under the thermomechanical cyclic loading, combined with an isothermal loading/unloading and an isostatic heating/cooling.
