Introducing the Paternal Prenatal Early Attachment Program: Enhancing the Role of Men in Support of Mom and Baby

Abstract

A growing body of literature indicates that the role of fathers during the prenatal period is critical to the health and well-being of the expected baby and the expectant parents. A newly presented, but well-established curriculum, the Paternal Prenatal Early Attachment Program (PPEAP): Enhancing the Role of Men in Support of Mom and Baby, has been implemented for many years with expectant fathers and is one of the first to focus specifically on fathers during the prenatal period. The purpose of this practice note is to explain the need for programs like PPEAP, explore the curriculum methodology, and indicate the strengths of this program, as well as how programs like this can inform practice with fathers to enhance father-child relationships.
