Abstract

Dear authors and readers,
This brief note is to inform you of two changes in the Journal of Veterinary Diagnostic Investigation. First, in the last three years the number of manuscripts submitted to the Journal has grown by about 25% each year. To accommodate this rapid growth while maintaining the quality of the review process, the AAVLD Executive Board authorized the addition of a second editor. I am very pleased to have Dr. Ken Latimer serving as Editor. Ken is a highly respected scientist with broad expertise on infectious and noninfectious diseases of animals. His addition to the editorial team will enhance our ability to adequately handle growth in the Journal without compromising quality.
Second, as the Journal grows we want to maintain its focus on veterinary diagnostic investigation. It has become apparent to us that the previous separation of articles published in the JVDI into two categories (full scientific reports and brief communications) does not adequately reflect the types of manuscripts submitted to the Journal. Therefore, beginning with this issue, published articles will be subdivided into three categories: full scientific reports, brief research reports, and case reports. We have not found it worth the extra expense to modify our online manuscript submission configuration to reflect these new categories. Therefore, brief research reports and case reports should continue to be submitted under the “brief communications category and the editorial office will determine to which sub-category they belong.
Dr. Latimer and I look forward to continue growing the JVDI while maintaining its quality and focus. This effort is only possible with the continuous commitment of those among you who serve as Editorial Board and ad hoc reviewers. I want to seize this opportunity to express the appreciation of AAVLD to all of you for your contributions to AAVLD's mission of disseminating scientific information through the JVDI.
