Working against racism: how European trade unions can combat racism at work

Abstract

This article brings together recommendations arising from a three-year EU-funded research project entitled ‘Racial and ethnic minorities, immigration and the role of trade unions in combating discrimination and xenophobia, in encouraging participation and in securing social inclusion and citizenship (RITU)’. The guidelines resulting from the project and entitled Working Against Racism were finalised at a concluding conference in Paris in October 2006 and have been amended in the light of the discussions that took place there. The guidelines were also discussed by the ETUC Migration and Inclusion Working Group which suggested amendments.

Cet article rassemble une série de recommandations résultant du projet de recherche de trois ans, financé par l'UE et intitulé «Minorités raciales et ethniques, immigration et rôle des syndicats dans la lutte contre les discriminations et la xénophobie, l'encouragement de la participation et la garantie de l'inclusion sociale et de la citoyenneté (RITU)». Les lignes directrices issues de ce projet et intitulées Working Against Racism ont été finalisées à la conférence de clôture à Paris en octobre 2006 et ont été modifiées à la lumière des discussions qui y ont eu lieu. Le groupe de travail «Migration et inclusion» de la CES a également discuté de ces orientations et y a apporté certains amendements.

Dieser Beitrag fasst die Empfehlungen zusammen, die im Rahmen eines mit EU-Mitteln finanzierten dreijährigen Forschungsprojekts mit dem Titel „Rassische und ethnische Minderheiten, Einwanderung und die Rolle der Gewerkschaften bei der Bekämpfung von Diskriminierung und Fremdenfeindlichkeit, bei der Förderung der Partizipation und bei der Sicherung der sozialen Eingliederung und der Bürgerrechte (RITU)” erarbeitet wurden. Die aus diesem Projekt hervorgegangenen Leitlinien Working Against Racism wurden bei der Abschlusskonferenz im Oktober 2006 in Paris fertig gestellt und entsprechend den Diskussionen bei dieser Konferenz abgeändert. Die EGB-Arbeitsgruppe „Migration und Einbindung” hat diese Leitlinien ebenfalls erörtert und Änderungen vorgeschlagen.
