Abstract
Thymic haemorrhage is rare in neonates. We report a case of a newborn infant with respiratory distress, who had findings of a widened mediastinum and enlarged thymic shadow on chest radiography. Ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging studies demonstrated a heterogenous lobulated anterior mediastinal mass proven on biopsy to represent an intrathymic haemorrhage. To the best of our knowledge, this was the only case reported in the literature to have not required any invasive ventilator support or blood products. It is therefore important to illustrate that this unusual pathology can respond well to conservative as well as more aggressive management strategies.
