Abstract
The Nicobarese inhabit the Nicobar archipelago in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, situated in the Bay of Bengal. They are racially Mongoloid. This paper describes the political organisation of this tribe in various dimensions – traditional, under foreign rule and after independence – as well as at various levels such as local, state and nation. This paper also takes into account the changes after Tsunami in December 2004, which almost wiped out the Nicobar archipelago.
