Abstract
This article argues for the relevancy of happiness as a criterion to be explicitly integrated in financial decisions and introduces the field of happiness finance as a subfield of happiness economics. The main philosophical and psychological approaches to the topic of happiness and its contributing factors are presented, with a particular focus on the role of money, banking and finance. The scope of happiness finance is defined. Potential applications of happiness finance are showcased. The concept of happiness can be practically incorporated as a business goal with key performance and impact indicators in the finance and banking industries.
