A number of railway buffs have correctly pointed out that the train from London to Windsor does not pass through Reading, but they have overlooked the fact that apart from his London appointments. Sir Arthur Hurst was also in charge of the Seal Hayne Hospital (now an agricultural college) at Newton Abbot, Devon; which was for the treatment of “shell shocked” soldiers during the First World War. He also had close connections with Oxford University, where he frequently held seminars. In order to get to both destinations the train from either London or Windsor does pass through Reading station.
