Abstract
Australian Near Infrared Spectroscopy Group (ANISG) Tony Blakeney Award in 2024: The award is made based on contributions to the use of NIR spectroscopy within Australia. Anthony Bernard (Tony) Blakeney (1948–2015) was an eminent and highly cited Australian grain scientist and carbohydrate chemist who recognized that NIR-based analyses could aid the production of more and higher quality cereals. Tony initiated, conducted and encouraged basic and applied research, which led to NIR spectroscopy being the chosen analytical technology in cereal breeding programs and by the cereal grains industry in Australia. Daniel’s acceptance presentation at the New Zealand – ANISG meeting was entitled “Food – Under the light of near infrared spectroscopy”. This article is based on that presentation.
