Abstract
The electrical, photometric and colorimetric behaviours of two types of compact fluorescent lamp have been examined under the following unusual supply regimes: square-wave voltage of various amplitude and frequencies; voltage wave forms produced by applying the phase-control dimming method; dimmed operating conditions produced by the 'auxiliary inductance' method. The results suggest that practical benefits may accrue from the application of novel control techniques, especially in view of the increasing efficiency and decreasing first cost of power electronic components, and the increasing cost of electrical energy.
