Abstract
The Department is responsible for the design, installation and subsequent maintenance of electrical services, including lighting, in approximately 3,500 premises including major public buildings. For the maintenance workload to be carried out effectively and within appropriate financial limits maintenance procedures and standards have to be established although, of necessity, standards will vary. The quality of the original design and installation work will influence the maintenance standards and ease of access and reliability are other factors that affect the level of maintenance achieved. The implications of the Health and Safety at Work Act and the need to conserve energy also have a significant impact on maintenance work.
