Abstract
The paper has a twofold purpose. Firstly, to present a method for reducing basic glare formulae to a form simple enough to apply to routine lighting design problems with no more equipment than a slide rule or simple pocket calculator. Secondly, to show how this method can be applied to Dr. Einhorn's new proposed CIE Glare Index formula* including a detailed step-by-step procedure with a worked example. The paper concludes with a brief comparison of the formula with established glare calculation theory and observation, which suggests that it is a useful compromise between the different national schemes.
