Abstract
Research based on models was carried out in Bremen in 1969 in connection with tunnels under construction and already completed. Luminances of about 200 cd/m2 were found and these have meanwhile proved successful in practice. Together with the construction of the lighting system, a new patented measuring instrument was developed which measures the recorded outside luminance of the surroundings of the tunnel entrance. The tests with the tunnel model, the examination of the tests on the installed lighting system, the influence of lighting on traffic safety, and the measuring instrument are described.
