Abstract

The Journal Editor and Sage Publications hereby issue an expression of concern for the following article:
Lv S, Liu L, Yang B, Zhao X. Association of miR-9-5p and NFIC in the progression of gastric cancer. Human and Experimental Toxicology. 2022;41. doi:10.1177/09603271221084671
The Journal Editor and Sage were alerted by the authors of a recent publication that describes one or more non-verifiable human cell lines- Oste DJ, Pathmendra P, Richardson RAK, et al. Misspellings or “miscellings”—Non-verifiable and unknown cell lines in cancer research publications. Int J Cancer. 2024; 1-12. doi:10.1002/ijc.34995
The article indicates that the cell lines BGC823 and SGC-7901 are mis-identified as human cancer cell lines and are found to be contaminated. The Cellosaurus database lists the cell lines as HeLa derivative. 1
Sage has contacted the authors of this article on this matter, and an investigation is underway.
This expression of concern has been put in place to alert the readers of the journal.
