Abstract
Background
The introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Nigerian library services signifies a revolutionary change in the way libraries function and assist their local populations.
Purpose
This study examines how AI might transform several important library management functions, such as information retrieval, user services, collection development, cataloguing and categorization, and general library administration.
Findings
While AI can lead to more streamlined processes, customized user experiences, and improved information access, there are still several obstacles to overcome before it can be fully implemented in Nigerian libraries. These include worries about the digital gap, prejudice in AI algorithms, data privacy, and the possible loss of library jobs. Through a detailed literature review, the paper provides recommendations for the ethical and effective introduction of AI in Nigerian libraries.
