Abstract
The integration of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) into mining operations has significantly improved productivity and safety protocols. This work explores the various uses of UAVs within the mining sector, highlighting their versatility. One key application is creating precise 3D maps of mine environments, assisting in exploration and supporting operational planning with accurate terrain models. Additionally, UAVs are crucial in mineral management, offering precise monitoring and control over extraction processes. They play an essential role in rock mechanics by mapping rock structures and identifying potential hazards, thereby enhancing safety measures. UAVs also contribute to post-blast rock fracture measurements, optimizing extraction processes and minimizing operational disruptions. Furthermore, UAVs improve safety and environmental monitoring at mining sites. The article provides a comprehensive overview of different types of UAVs available on the market, detailing their specifications and suitability for mining operations. From fixed-wing to rotary-wing UAVs, each type offers unique advantages tailored to specific operational needs. The study identifies key areas for further research, particularly focusing on the design and implementation of UAVs for underground mining applications. Overcoming challenges such as navigation in confined spaces and establishing reliable communication systems underground is crucial for maximizing the potential of UAVs in this context. In summary, this study emphasizes the critical role of UAVs in transforming the mining industry by enhancing operational efficiency, improving safety standards, and promoting environmental sustainability. As technology advances, integrating UAVs into mining operations promises to unlock new levels of productivity and environmental stewardship.
