Abstract
Implementing lean manufacturing implies a profound cultural change that will alter the role of every person in the business enterprise. Managing this change requires the understanding, long-term commitment, and continuing active participation of executive leadership. Success depends on a trained workforce that uses its skills, knowledge, and initiative in a cooperative and disciplined manner to improve the business continuously. The University of Kentucky's Lean Manufacturing Program provides guidance, education, training, opportunities for mutual support, and other assistance to companies engaged in implementing lean manufacturing.
