Abstract
Former teachers of learning disabled students were surveyed by means of a questionnaire to identify why they had left teaching. The reasons for attrition were classed as relating to personal factors, special education factors, and general teaching factors. Results were tallied based on hoW many former teachers identified an item as one of the five most important reasons for leaving the LD class. Excessive paperwork was the item with the highest frequency. Other highly ranked items related to general teaching factors (e. g., desire for more money and little opportunity for growth) and to personal reasons (e.g., getting married and spouse being transferred) rather than to special education factors.
