Abstract
Lyme disease is one of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) reportable diseases. This article describes the discovery, cause, treatment, and prevention of this illness, an illness that can render an individual incapable of independent activities of daily living (ADLs). It is written to provide an overview of the agent, the transmission, the host, and the effects through the stories of individuals who have suffered. It is hoped that the outcome of reading this article will be a better understanding of Lyme, an enhanced knowledgebase to share with individuals for prevention, and, in general, a more aware society. Lyme is real! It is also very easily treatable in its earlier stages.
